FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — International sculptor Ryan T. Schmidt has entered his latest monumental sculpture, Tango Rosso, at ArtPrize 2025, taking place from September 18 to October 4. Entered into this year’s ArtPrize competition, the 17-foot-tall sculpture adds a bold and commanding presence to the city’s celebrated public art experience. The sculpture is elevated both literally and artistically, by a striking Ferrari-red base, originally created for the Inaugural Scottsdale Ferrari Art Week launched in Arizona earlier this year. Now featured at ArtPrize, Tango Rosso invites audiences into a powerful visual and emotional dialogue centered on rhythm, reflection, and resonance.

Crafted from non-corrosive stainless steel, Tango Rosso symbolizes the spiritual dance of life. With sweeping arcs and fluid, curvilinear forms, the piece radiates movement, energy, and grace. Its mirror-polished surface invites a rhythmic interaction with its surroundings and viewers—capturing and reflecting light, people, and the environment in real time.

The piece will be installed at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, where Schmidt has exhibited each ArtPrize season since 2017 with previous years showing at the Van Andel Museum and J.W. Marriott Dontown Grand Rapids. He continues to be an active contributor to the local art scene, working from his local studio and operating his own gallery at Bridgewater Place in Grand Rapids since 2022.

Currently residing between Scottsdale and Grand Rapids, Schmidt is a native of Arkansas and is globally recognized for his large-scale stainless steel sculptures that merge contemporary design with spiritual symbolism. His work is featured in private collections and public spaces across the United States—from San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York—to international destinations such as Vancouver, London, Taipei, and Shanghai. His portfolio includes landmark installations at waterfronts, corporate campuses, and private estates around the world—each piece leaving a lasting impression of strength, elegance, and grace.
