Ryan T. Schmidt

Stainless Steel Sculpture “Resting Dove” is an abstract contemporary sculpture for outdoor/exterior placement. It is made of Type 316-L non-corrosive stainless steel polished in mirror reflective finish, attached to a heavy white powder-coated stainless steel base.

 

The sculpture was built in 2019 and was exhibited for the first time during the Inauguration of The Other Art Fair in Dallas, Texas. The sculpture was also entered for Artprize competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2021 and was exhibited at the Gerald Ford Museum. 

The 10.5ft wide sculpture (72” x 127″ x 54") is showing at SoulArt Gallery in Grand Rapids and a 8.5ft wide version of the piece is showing in Scottsdale, Arizona (43" x104" x 22")

Exhibition History

  1. September 2019: The Other Art Fair Dallas, Texas - The Art Fair presented 120 independent artists at Dallas Market Hall over 4 days alongside an exciting program of fair features. Exhibiting artists were hand-picked by a Selection Committee of art world experts, giving visitors the unique opportunity to meet and buy directly from the very best acclaimed talent artists. Our interaction to everyone and involvement of each artists in the entire process of the fair from start to finish created a more engaging environment. The launch of a large-scale sculpture “Resting Dove” as a statement piece by Ryan T. Schmidt made it an attraction especially to these kids who are playing with their reflection. Schmidt also spoke during the art tour and explain his process and inspiration.  ​​

2. October 2019: Texas Contemporary Fine Art Fair - Houston’s leading contemporary and premier modern Fine Art Fair, bringing top galleries to the area’s discerning collector base. The 2019 Edition returned to the George R. Brown Convention Center for a compelling and constructive event featuring exhibitors and innovative program of special projects and public installations. Serrano Gallery at Booth C03 exhibited for the first time in collaboration with Abedin Fine Art and SoulArt Inc presented these talented artists: Ryan T. Schmidt, Fariba Abedin, Valentina Atkinson, Didier Mayés, KeLyne Reis, and Rolando Rojas. 

3. January 2020 - March 2020: Celebration of Fine Art Scottsdale - For 30 years, the Celebration of Fine Art has been successful in creating a space for artists and art lovers to connect, and for 10 weeks the show runs from January 18 through March 29, 2020. The show is the only ONE in Arizona that provides people from all walks of life the rare opportunity to watch art develop and interact with the artists. It is a place to meet and interact with artists, watch new works come to life, and enjoy life-sized and monumental sculptures at the Sculpture Court. Schmidt was also part of the panelist that year during the popular Art Discovery Series sponsored by Fine Art Connoisseur. The dynamic discussion was about "Risk to Reward" which covered how artists evolve and the chances they take on new ways to express their views. ​

4. September 2020: Private Sculpture Preview in Ada, Michigan - in navigating through the most challenging year during pandemic, a more intimate private event was held in lieu of Artprize which was cancelled that year. A private collector hosted the sculptures with Resting Dove as its welcome piece for the roundabout driveway.​

5. November 2020 - Hidden in the Hills Cave Creek, Arizona - participating for the first time at the 24th Annual Artist Studio Tour Hidden in the Hills. The 160 exhibiting artists are all members of the Sonoran Arts League showing in 40 studio locations throughout the scenic Desert Foothills communities of Cave Creek, Carefree, and North Scottsdale. The studio tour is free and self-guided offering seasoned collectors and art enthusiasts a rare chance to observe artists at work   in their private studios during the six-day tour. Hosted by Beth Zink Studio during pandemic, Resting Dove was viewed through a drive-thru sculpture garden or walk-up where there was plenty of space of distancing. Click to watch the video:​

6. December 2020: Hangar Scottsdale Airpark - Artist hosted a holiday open house  at his studio in Scottsdale Airpark before the Celebration of Fine Art kicks off. Read more about year-in-review for 2020 here.

7. May 2021 - July 2021: Reflection of Flight exhibit launched at Scottsdale Airpark - Ross Aviation hosted the large sculptures for the first time last summer of 2021. The show is encouraging the viewers to reflect through the reflections from the sculptures that is capturing the atmospheric perspective of airplanes and jets as they land or take off. Schmidt's goal is to bring an uplifting vibe during the season while enjoying the surrounding mountain and gorgeous pink sunsets in the middle of Arizona heat! His hope is to bring out the feeling of inspiration especially in this world of uncertainty.

 

8. July 2021: 74th International Institute of Welding (IIW) Assembly and Conference - Artist, Ryan T. Schmidt, has been featured once again at the 74th International Institute of Welding Assembly & International Conference that took place July 7th  to July 21st, 2021. Schmidt participated in the Bratislava Assembly & Conference featuring the art collection presented to the delegates, while previous year’s to be held in Singapore until pandemic hit. The good news is that everyone in the world is now able to access and download the IIW 2021 Digital Collection.  

 

9. September 2021-October 2021: Ryan T. Schmidt has been exhibiting in Artprize Grand Rapids since 2015. Over half a million people visited the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum during Artprize where Resting Dove was exhibited in 2021. The sculpture made it to the cover of Mlive news of the 12 must-see photos from ArtPrize 2021′s opening days. 

10. November 2021: Fall Fountain Festival of Fine Arts - Ryan T. Schmidt Participates for the First Time at the Fountain Festival of Fine Arts in Arizona to be held over the weekend after Veteran's day. The location will be a fantastic backdrop for all the artwork surrounding the Avenue of the Fountains. From the Center of a man-made lake, one of the "World's Highest Fountains" shoots water up to 560 feet into the blue desert sky. It is the Centerpiece and landmark of Fountain Hills, a community of rolling hills and spectacular mountain views located just east of Scottsdale, Arizona, thirty miles from downtown Phoenix. Since the inaugural of the art show was held in 1974, the event has grown to more than 500 artists and artisans from all over the world.  

 

11. January 2021/2022-March 2021/2022: Celebration of Fine Art - Artist has returned to the Annual Celebration of Fine Art Show in Scottsdale, Arizona. One of the most exciting news during this time is the launch of our e-commerce site through the show’s online marketplace. This was a great addition to the annual in-person event coming happening from January through March of each year. Our viewers will now have more ways to connect and collect, and be able to browse artist's inventory live in the comfort of their own sofas!

 

12. April 2022: International Sculpture Day - Emerson Gallery Fountain Hills, AZ. Sponsored by International Sculpture Center ~ artists, organizations and institutions worldwide are expected to celebrate the day. One of ISC’s mission is advancing the awareness of sculpture and its unique, vital contribution to society. As a contributing member for the last 5 years, SoulArt is bringing ISDay for the first time in Fountain Hills, Arizona partnering with Emerson Art Gallery to exhibit sculptures of these two talented artists: Ryan T. Schmidt, a stainless steel sculptor and Gedion Nyanhongo, a stone carver. ​

13. May 2022 - May 2024 Del Mar, California - Resting Dove was brought to San Diego for a private showing of a residence next to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve before the piece was brought back to Michigan to be shown at SoulArt Gallery.
